MULTIMEDIA
Multimedia is:
- anything that is produced digitally contains two or more of the following:
- Audio, video, text, hypertext, animation, images
Creating multimedia:
- applications such as PowerPoint creates multimedia
- most applications today allow you t insert images, sound and video
Sound:
- digital sound is generated by a computer and is called MIDI sound
- WAV, mp3, AIFF formats are sounds converted from analogue to digital sounds
Digital Recording:
- it is easy to record analogue or real sound
- you can produce digital sound through pod-casting
- the digital sound changes through your speakers to analogue
Video:
- video is a serious of still images
- a video camera takes pictures quickly to make it a video
- the more frames the better the quality
- the more the frames the larger the file
- video is saved in various file formats it all depends on the application you want play it on
- it also depends on the platform it is played on
- the smaller files often use compression technology. The file is unpacked as it is played on computers
Animation:
- it is a serious of still pictures
- there are 6-12 frames on the net
- often it is looped
Animation Video:
- it doesn’t need to be hand drawn as computers can produce it
- doesn’t have to be a cartoon
- it generates images from mathematical data and produce a serious of still images that are animated
Hypertext:
- text used to be static-printed on a page
- computers text can be hyperlinked to other pieces of text
- readings are no longer linear
- text that allows the reader to click and jump from one page to page, topic to topic is called hypertext
- the other kind is called plain text
Images:
- analogue images are converted to digital images by scanning
- digital image are captured by a computer using peripheral device (web-cam/digital camera)
- digital image can be manipulated (photoshop, paintshop pro)
- you can take a still image and import into animation
- two main areas are print (TIFF) and CD/Internet (JDG which is smaller file)
- you can hyper and animate an image
